Monica Smith guides U.S. and foreign companies in gaining clearances for complex, multibillion-dollar deals, often involving international investigations and Second Requests by the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Monica represents companies in several sectors, including oil and gas, food and beverage, healthcare, aerospace and defense, consumer goods, banking and financial services, and paper and packaging. Notably, Monica represented a paper and packaging company in an $11 billion acquisition, which stands as one of the first transactions to apply for clearance under the EU foreign subsidies regulation.
Monica earned her JD from New York University School of Law, where she was a member of the Jacobson Leadership Program in Law and Business and Editor-in-Chief of the New York University Law Review. During law school, she was a Lawrence Lederman Fellow and received the Vanderbilt Medal for outstanding contributions to the School of Law in 2016. After graduating, Monica clerked for the Honorable Leo E. Strine, Jr., Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court.
Monica is active in the American Bar Association Antitrust Section, serving as Vice Chair of the Transportation and Energy Industries Committee and a Young Lawyer Representative of the Unfair Competition Committee.
