Axinn Successfully Secures Asylum on Behalf of Pro Bono Client
December 20, 2023
Axinn has secured asylum on behalf of a 37-year-old Afghan man who worked on joint missions with the U.S. military as an electrical engineer and Captain in the Afghan National Army. The client fled Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover in August 2021, after which the Taliban repeatedly appeared at his family home demanding to know his whereabouts because–due to his ties with the U.S. military–they believed him to be a traitor. A team of Axinn attorneys prepared a legal brief, gathered supporting documentation, and accompanied the man to an interview with asylum officers in the fall of 2022. The man now lives and works in Missouri and will soon be able to seek reunification with his wife and children, who remain in Afghanistan. The team included Lisl Dunlop, Caroline Boisvert, Heather Zuckert, Ramya Auroprem, Maryanne Magnier, and Megan Wan.
